Mirror recognition in birds refers to the ability of certain bird species to recognize themselves in a mirror, a trait considered an indicator of self-awareness. While this phenomenon is rare in the animal kingdom, a few bird species, such as magpies and some parrots, have demonstrated the ability to identify their reflection as themselves rather than perceiving it as another bird. This ability is tested using the "mark test," where a visible mark is placed on the bird in a spot it cannot see without a mirror.
